Law Enforcement Actions
Officials confirmed that multiple atmospheric balloons were detected entering Lithuania from the adjacent country of Belarus, with two of which ending up right above the main terminal.
As many as 14 of the weather balloons deployed throughout the weekend drifted across the capital region, which is home to Lithuania's main urban center and close to the frontier with Belarus.

Illegal Transport Methods
Regarding inquiries concerning why smugglers utilize a technique that proves highly susceptible to weather elements rather than simpler to operate drones, representatives elaborated that "Atmospheric equipment are simple mechanisms used by smugglers - they are cheaper than drones for moving tobacco products from Belarus."
Law Enforcement Objectives
Representatives further stated that "Our services' aim is to confiscate the maximum possible amounts of illegal goods and to detain organisers and participants so that these practices become not financially viable and create minimal risk to commercial air travel."
Regional Security Context
