Whenever a major honors show nears, one notices an outcry for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games globally maintaining this status for many years.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
