Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Replay technology will be launched at The Championships this year.

Players are granted the ability to challenge specific calls from the official, mirroring the practice currently in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step arrives only a season following the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine other decisions, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Notably, there will be no cap on the number of challenges a player can request.

Practical Application

An illustrative example took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open this year.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at every one of its events.

Further Updates

Another change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where the crowd have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
